Historically, GAIKINDO’s existence began in 1969. The embryo of GAIKINDO originated from two organizations in the Indonesian automotive industry that already existed, namely the Association of Indonesian Motor Vehicle Sole Agents (GAKINDO) and the Association of Automobile Assemblers (GAM). The purpose of establishing GAKINDO and GAM at that time was to play a role as a professional and independent partner for the Government in delivering the Indonesian automotive industry to become world-class. <\/p>\n\n

The following are some important milestones in GAIKINDO’s history since its founding in 1969 until now in 2022:<\/p>\n\n

1969<\/strong>Two associations were established: the Association of Indonesian Motor Vehicle Sole Agents (GAKINDO) and the Association of Automobile Assemblers (GAM). These associations later became the precursors to GAIKINDO. <\/p>\n\n

1975<\/strong>GAKINDO and GAM formed an alliance to form the Association of Sole Agents and Assemblers of Indonesian Motor Vehicles (GAAKINDO). At its inception, GAAKINDO had several administrators, including Chairman Frits Hendrik Eman, Deputy Chairman Soegianto Sastrosatomo, Treasurer Mohammad Thaib Affan, and Secretary General Hadi S Topobroto. <\/p>\n\n

1985<\/strong>GAAKINDO grew alongside the growth of the national automotive industry and changed its name to the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO). Initially, GAIKINDO consisted of 37 members from sole agents, the automotive assembly industry, and the spare parts industry. At this stage, GAIKINDO’s management consisted of Chairman Soebronto Laras, First Vice Chairman Amran Zamzani, Second Vice Chairman Atung Sudibya, Third Vice Chairman Gandewo Soegiarto, Treasurer IM Sarosa Ratam, and Secretary General F Soeseno. <\/p>\n\n

1986<\/strong>For the first time since its founding, GAIKINDO held a motor vehicle exhibition called the “GAIKINDO Car Exhibition,” attended by 13 GAIKINDO members. The exhibition’s theme was “I Love Indonesia, I Love Indonesian Cars.” The exhibition ran from July 11 to 15, 1986, and took place at the Jakarta Convention Center in the Senayan area (now the Jakarta Convention Center – JCC), covering an area of \u200b\u200b4,000 square meters. <\/p>\n\n

2004<\/strong>The global automotive industry continued to develop and influence the domestic automotive industry. The automotive industry was no longer solely concerned with engine technology and models, but also began to incorporate aesthetic elements. This new paradigm also prompted GAIKINDO to implement several improvements, one of which was a logo change. <\/p>\n\n

The old logo, which was a car steering wheel, has been transformed into a new logo in the form of a car image with a design that follows the latest developments in graphic art that reflects a new spirit, technological developments, driving safety and environmental preservation.<\/p>\n\n

2006<\/strong>GAIKINDO achieved a new milestone by becoming a member of the global automotive industry organization (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d\u2019Automobile, OICA). Headquartered in Paris, France, OICA oversees automotive industry associations worldwide. By becoming an OICA member, GAIKINDO’s automotive exhibitions, particularly the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), which meets international standards in various aspects, received endorsement and recognition from OICA as the only world-class automotive exhibition in Indonesia. <\/p>\n\n

2009<\/strong>To accommodate the growing interest of exhibitors, in 2009, GAIKINDO moved the motor vehicle exhibition location from the Jakarta Hilton Convention Center (JHCC) in the Senayan area to the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran.<\/p>\n\n

2010<\/strong>With the expansion of GAIKINDO’s secretariat activities, the management decided to move its office from Jalan HOS Cokroaminoto, Menteng, Central Jakarta, to a new office at Jalan Teuku Cik Ditiro I No. 11 D-E-F, Menteng, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n\n

2015<\/strong>GAIKINDO moved its motor vehicle exhibition from the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran, Jakarta, to the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Tangerang, Banten. The 2015 GIIAS exhibition, the first of its kind at ICE BSD, ran for 11 days, from August 20-30, 2015. The exhibition featured 34 of the latest vehicle brands from 23 authorized brand agents (APMs), two general importers, and more than 320 participants from supporting industries. For the first time, GIIAS The Series was held in Makassar (South Sulawesi) and Surabaya (East Java). <\/p>\n\n

2017<\/strong>For the first time since becoming an OICA member (2006), GAIKINDO was appointed as host of the OICA General Assembly. The event was held on October 17, 2017, in Bali. <\/p>\n\n

2018<\/strong>For the first time, GAIKINDO held the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (GIICOMVEC), attended by 14 authorized commercial vehicle dealers (APMs). The event was held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) from March 1-4, 2018. <\/p>\n\n

2019<\/strong>GAIKINDO celebrated its 50th anniversary. A celebration took place on August 21, 2019, at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta. The event was attended by all stakeholders, government agencies, GAIKINDO members, and other invited guests. <\/p>\n\n

2022<\/strong>To accelerate the recovery of the domestic automotive industry, GAIKINDO will hold the GAIKINDO Jakarta Auto Week (JAW) exhibition for the first time at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, from March 12-20, 2022.<\/p>\n\n

2025<\/strong>GAIKINDO currently comprises at least 60 member companies representing brands from several countries, including Japan, Germany, France, the United States, Sweden, China, South Korea, and India, operating in the automotive industry, including production, distribution, and primary components.
