This decision comes amidst volatile fuel prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The policy is outlined in Minister of Home Affairs Regulation (Permendagri) Number 11 of 2026, ratified on Friday, 17 April 2026. This regulation establishes a new basis for the vehicle tax system, including for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this regulation, electric vehicles are now subject to Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB). Previously, both tax components were exempted in an effort to encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this new tax regulation, regional governments have the authority to determine the amount of electric vehicle tax. This means that while electric vehicles are still subject to tax by law, the amount paid can vary, potentially even zero rupiah, depending on the policies of each region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, automotive manufacturers expressed caution and awaited further implementation from the government. One response came from Chery Group Indonesia, which oversees several electric vehicle brands. &#8220;We are ready once the policy is implemented,&#8221; said Chery Group Indonesia President Director Zeng Shuo, when contacted by<em> INEWS <\/em>in Jakarta on Saturday, 18 April 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the possible impact on electric vehicle prices, he stated that his company is still evaluating. &#8220;We will decide after the regulations are in effect and after receiving feedback from customers,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, Chery Group Indonesia offers several brands in Indonesia, such as Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, iCar, and Lepas.
