KOMPAS— Kijang Innova, Toyota’s multipurpose vehicle (MPV) model, has regained to become the best-selling car in the domestic market in March 2025. Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), total whole sales of Toyota Kijang Innova reached 5,353 units.
The figures include Innova Zenix (3,062 units) and Innova Reborn (2,291 units). Despite being the best-selling, the figures are still outnumbered by Innova sales in the previous month by 10 percent, where sales reached 6,008 units. This means that the Innova’s sale in March has helped make a significant contribution to the national car sales in March (70,892 units) that declined by two percent from February, and by 5.1 percent from March 2024.
Meanwhile, Toyota Avanza—a low multi-purpose vehicle model, aka a 7-passenger family car—grew significantly from February (2,775 units) to 5,069 units in March. Avanza ranked second as the best-selling car in March 2025, from seventh previously.
The third place is Daihatsu Sigra with total sales of 4,309 units (growing 30 percent) followed by Honda Brio (4,000 units, down 27 percent) and Toyota Calya (2,639 units, down 27.5 percent) which closed the top five positions. Overall, the top 10 best-selling cars in Indonesia at the end of the first quarter of 2025 were still dominated by Japanese brands.
Chinese-made cars are starting to appear to be trying to break this dominance. Sales of BYD Denza D9 comes only slightly behind Suzuki XL7. Ranked 11th, the BYD’s luxury car recorded sales of 1,587 units, just 13 units less than Suzuki’s flagship LSUV. BYD’s M6— the best-selling electric car in March— ranked 14th with sales of 1,293 units. (*)
