Minister Agus Gumiwang: Total Investment in Automotive Industry Reaches IDR 194.22 Trillion

JAKARTA— Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that by 2025 the total investment in Indonesia’s automotive industry reach IDR 194.22 trillion. Of this amount, car manufacturers invested IDR 163.75 trillion, while motorcycles invested IDR 30.47 trillion.

“This investment will certainly have a significant multiplier effect on the economy,” Agus Gumiwang said on Thursday, 5 February 2026.

According to Ministry of Industry data, there are currently 41 car manufacturers employing 69,000 people. The average car production capacity reaches 2.59 million units per year. There are 82 motorcycle manufacturers employing 30,000 workers. The average production capacity of two-wheeled vehicles reaches 11.2 million units per year.

“The automotive sector is crucial because it directly employs nearly 100,000 workers, not to mention the indirect workforce,” said Minister Agus Gumiwang.

Car wholes sales in 2025 are projected to reach 803,687 units, a 7.2 percent decrease compared to 2024. Retail sales (from dealers to consumers) are projected to reach 833,712 units, a 6.3 percent decrease compared to 2024.

Agus stated that exports of completely built-up (CBU) cars support the performance of the Indonesian automotive industry. (TEMPO)
