DETIK – PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has prepared 1,515 units of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) for the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday period. This figure represents a threefold increase compared with the same period in 2024, when around 500 units were available.
The expansion of SPKLU infrastructure follows the rapid growth of electric vehicles nationwide, which has reached approximately 150,000 units, up sharply from about 65,000 units in the previous year. This growth has made charging infrastructure increasingly critical.
All SPKLU units will be on standby at rest areas along major toll roads from Sumatra to Java, extending as far as Probolinggo in East Java. The placement is intended to ensure that electric vehicle users can undertake long-distance travel without concerns over running out of power.
PLN estimates that the number of electric vehicle users traveling during the 2025/2026 holiday season will reach around 26,000, up from 12,183 recorded last year. Accordingly, all SPKLU facilities will operate 24 hours a day under a shift-based system.
In addition to regular services, PLN has also prepared Mobile SPKLU units—portable charging facilities for emergency situations on the road. This service can be accessed via a dedicated hotline and PLN’s digital application, which is equipped with a Trip Planner feature that helps users identify nearby charging locations along their route.
These preparations were presented by PLN during an energy coordination forum at the office of the BPH Migas. The initiative is expected to support smooth mobility for electric vehicle users during the year-end holiday period in 2025. (*)
