BISNIS.COM – Vietnamese automotive manufacturer VinFast has officially inaugurated its first plant in Indonesia, located in Subang, West Java. The manufacturing facility will serve as VinFast’s production base in Indonesia to support the development of the national electric vehicle industry.

VinFast Asia’s management expects the Subang plant to strengthen Indonesia’s electric vehicle ecosystem. The facility is also aimed at creating jobs and supporting national economic growth of up to eight percent.

The construction of the VinFast plant in Subang involved an investment of more than IDR 3.5 trillion. Initial production capacity has been set at 50,000 units per year.

The manufacturing complex spans an area of 171 hectares and will be equipped with a test track, including dedicated lanes for vehicle performance and quality testing prior to market release.

In terms of employment, the VinFast plant has absorbed around 1,700 workers during the initial phase of operations. Recruitment was completed ahead of the start of production.

The government considers VinFast one of the largest Vietnamese investors in Indonesia. In addition, the company has announced plans for an additional investment of around USD 1 billion, or approximately IDR 17 trillion.

The additional investment will be used to expand the plant’s production capacity. Over the medium term, capacity is planned to increase from 50,000 units to 350,000 units per year.

To ensure operational readiness, managerial-level employees have undergone training in Vietnam over the past three to four months to align production and factory management standards. VinFast has also brought in experts from Vietnam to Subang to train local technicians, who will be directly involved in the vehicle production process.

Under this scheme, the VinFast plant is targeted to reach full operation in early 2026, supported by a locally based workforce that has completed intensive training.

According to data from the GAIKINDO, VinFast’s wholesale sales in Indonesia reached 3,118 units from January to November 2025, while retail sales during the same period totaled 2,957 units. (*)
