This is an investment of three automotive companies from abroad: SAIC Motor Corporation Ltd, General Motors, and Guangxi Motor Corporation.

The plant construction symbolically took place in a ceremony on Thursday 20 August 2015 in Indonesia. The ceremony was attended by Ministry of Industry’s Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronic Endustries (Mr Gusti Putu Suryawirawan); Head of Promotion and Business Climate Office of Market and Trade of Bekasi District (Mr Titot Suheryanto), Marketing Coordinator Investment for People’s Republic of China (Mr Harri Santoso); President of PT SGMW Motor Indonesia (Mr Xu Feiyun); Counselor for Economic Affairs and Embassy Commerce People’s Republic of China (Mr Wang Li Ping); Vice President of PT SGMW Motor Indonesia (Mr Yuan Zhijun).

Wuling is building its plant with an investment of USD 700 millions. The plant is expected to contribute to the creation of some 10,000 jobs. But there is no clarity of the number of how many Indonesian workers to be employed. SGMW Motor Indonesia President Mr Xu Feiyun said most local workers. “They will get training first,” said Mr Feiyun.

In China, SGMW Motor produces small commercial cars and passenger cars (multipurpose vehicle, MPV). Wuling cars are expected to begin to roll in Indonesia in 2017. (*)
