GAIKINDO Ready with New Organisation Structure, Technology Included now

JAKARTA— The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) held a management election for the 2019-2022 period. The election took place through a member general meeting (RUA) on 4th March 2019 in Jakarta. The meeting presented all GAIKINDO members. They consisted of car manufacturers, car distributors, and manufacturerd of car components.

The outcome of the meeting indicated that they re-elected Yohannes Nangoi as General Chair of GAIKINDO. Nangoi will lead GAIKINDO again for the 2019-2022 term. This is the second time for Nangoi to assume the position of Chairperson of GAIKINDO. “I feel honoured to still get the trust of the members to again be responsible for safeguarding GAIKINDO,” Nangoi said in a press statement on Tuesday 5th March 2019.

He emphasised that as a strategic partner of the Indonesian government in encouraging the growth of the Indonesian automotive industry, GAIKINDO will continue to achieve better achievements, by striving to increase exports, make Indonesia an export base, and createvast distribution of automotive products and information throughout Indonesia.

The meeting also set a new chair position, which developed from the previous six to seven co-chairmen. GAIKINDO’s decision to choose one additional chairman was based on an understanding of the importance of deepening in the field of future technology, given the rapid technological developments in the automotive industry.

“At the moment the development of automotive technology, starting from hybrids, plug-in hybrids and electric cars is increasing rapidly. GAIKINDO feels the need to continue to explore the future of automotive technology and prepare Indonesia to take part in it,” Nangoi said.

Nangoi once worked at International Business Machine (IBM) Indonesia as a general manager (GM). In July 1994 he began to enter automotive industry. He worked at Isuzu Indonesia (then PT Pantja Motor) as a head of the marketing division and marketing director until August 1997. His career drove him to serve as vice president director at PT Astra Daihatsu Motor in 1997. Still at Daihatsu, he also served as chief executive of PT Astra International Tbk-Daihatsu Sales Operation . In September 1999 he handled PT Astra Honda Motor as director of marketing.

In 2000 he returned to PT Pantja Motor until Isuzu Indonesia changed its name to PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI). He once served as president. Before entering his full time at Isuzu, he was elected as Chair of GAIKIDO in February 2016, replacing Sudirman MR.

Nangoi, born 13rd November 1957, is now returning to the task to lead the Indonesian automotive industry in the midst of various dynamics and challenges. “We are in charge of stimulating Indonesia. We have a vision and mission, will not side with certain countries, certain brands, or certain groups. We are in favor of the progress of the national automotive industry. So our goal is there,” he said(*)
