World Car Market Up 3% in 2014

The annual release by the Association of World Motor Vehicle Manufacturer (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles, OICA) in 2014 implies that the world’s car total production reached 89.5 million units. That is 3% higher than that in 2013. Meanwhile, car sales to general consumers (not including the military, police, and government) reached 88.2 million units, up 3%, equal to an increase in production.

The increase in production and sales also occured in Europe though the area is still in a state of post-crisis economic recovery. European region saw production increase of 5% and 6% of sales. Meanwhile in Asia and the Middle East production reached 47.4 million (up 3%), and sales of 42.6 million (up 6%).

Production and sales in Asia and the Middle East nearly comprised 50% of world figures. China remains the strongest, where production and sales rose 7%. In Southeast Asia, Thailand slipped by 30% and Indonesia 2%.

North America (NAFTA) rose in 2014. Production reached 17.4 million units and sales broke a record up to 19.9 million units. Positive trend emerged in three regional markets: the United States (US), Canada, and Mexico. But in Central and South America sales were down 11% and 17% of production. Argentina saw nosedive in 2014, where sales plummeted 36% and production dropped 22%.

Production and sales in Africa rose. Despite the new record in production by 0.71 million units (+ 11%) and sales by 1.56 million (+ 3%), sales and production trends area stable, and have a good long-term prospects.
